Reference librarians provide direct, personal assistance to faculty, students, staff and community visitors.

Reference service includes assistance and instruction, both formal and informal, in using basic and/or specialized research tools. Training topics include library catalogs, print and online indexes, full-text databases, and Internet resources.

Reference help is available by phone, e-mail, chat, or in person.
Call 262-472-1032, e-mail questions to refdesk@uww.edu or use the online form. Reference via real-time chat is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. The Ask a Librarian (or AskAway) service uses software that allows chat sessions to be handled by staff at academic libraries other than the University Library. UW-Whitewater librarians respond to all emailed inquiries.

In-person assistance is available at the Reference Desk or appointments may be made to meet with a librarian one-on-one for more in-depth assistance or exam proctoring. Reference librarians staff the Library's Reference Desk during the following hours (except when the Library is closed):
