Before checking out a laptop or related items all patrons must agree to the following rules and agree to abide by the Library Computer Use Policy. This "Laptop Agreement" form must be signed and dated the first time each semester that a patron checks out a laptop.

  • Valid UW-Whitewater Student, Faculty, or Teaching Academic Staff ID and state ID or driver's license is required for checkout.
  • Patrons must not have library fines and fees in excess of $10.00 or recalled materials.
  • One laptop per person.
  • Laptops may not be reserved and are available on a first-come, first-served basis only.
  • Laptops are to be used within the library (teaching staff borrowing overnight is excluded).
  • Laptops are due 4-hours after checkout or 1 hour before the library closes
  • Teaching staff may borrow a laptop overnight
  • Patrons must adhere to copyright regulations regarding software and internet usage.
  • Patrons will be held liable for replacement charges for lost or damaged equipment.

The Library is not responsible for any damage to user's secondary storage (CDs, Floppy Disk, ZIP Disk, etc.) or loss of data due to malfunctioning library hardware/software.

Data is automatically deleted when the laptop is turned off.

Digital Projector

The check out policy for the Library's digital projector is the same as for Library Laptops. Valid UW-Whitewater Student, Faculty, or Teaching Academic Staff ID and state ID or driver's license is required for checkout. Patrons must have a current Laptop Agreement form on file and may not have outstanding recalled materials or library fines and fees in excess of $10.00.

The projector may be borrowed for up to 4 hours at a time and it is available on a first come first served basis. Set up instructions for the projector are attached to the unit.

Overdue Fines

  • Laptops and the digital projector are fined $5.00 (each) per hour overdue.
  • Headphones, calculators, and other peripheral computer equipment are fined $1.00 per item per hour overdue
  • There is a Non-Refundable $15.00 processing fee for each checked out piece of equipment that is added after 4 hours overdue.

Other Equipment

  • Headphones and Calculators may be checked out for use in the library from the Circulation Desk.
  • Public telephone is located in the lobby of the Williams Center and outside the Student Athletic Complex, which is near Perkins Stadium and a public fax is available in Esker Hall
  • CD-R & RW discs, as well as USB drives (128MB) and transparencies for laser printers are available for sale.
  • A limited supply of highlighters, rulers, and scissors are available for public use. You will be asked to leave your ID while using these items.
  • A stapler, hole-punch, and paper cutter are available for public use at the Circulation Desk (near the color printer)
  • Public access typewriters are located on the top floor of the library. All typewriters are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • ATM is located in Center of the Arts, Drumlin Hall, & first floor lobby of Wells Hall.
