Proctoring Examinations
Reference librarians at the University Library may proctor examinations without charge for UW-Whitewater students as well as for students at other institutions, depending on staff availability and providing that a mutually acceptable time can be agreed upon.
UW-Whitewater students should first contact the campus Testing Office, which can proctor exams during daytime hours.
Scheduling
- UW-Whitewater students who cannot arrange proctoring with the Testing Office, and non-UW-Whitewater students, may contact the Reference librarians (come to the Reference Desk, call 262-472-1032, or email refdesk@uww.edu) at least one week in advance to schedule a time and to obtain the name of a specific librarian who will be available to proctor the exam. Please allow ample time if materials must be mailed to the proctor.
- Exams may be proctored during Reference Desk hours only.
- If several students from the same class request proctoring, the professor will be contacted to encourage arrangements for an alternate testing time, and, if necessary, to coordinate the students' availability so that their exams may be proctored simultaneously at the Library.
Prior to the exam, librarians will need to know the course instructor's name, institution, and contact information. The course instructor should provide information about the format of the exam, maximum time allowed for exam completion, materials the student may (or may not) have during the exam, and any other specific instructions about how the exam is to be conducted or submitted. Note: Online exams requiring that a computer be "locked down" so that other sites may not be accessed cannot be proctored in the Library. Librarians are not able to watch a student's monitor at all times.
At the time scheduled for an exam, the student should come to the Reference Desk. The student must present picture identification, e.g., campus identification card or driver's license, before starting an exam.
